The Right Size

The E48 is ideal for smaller projects since it can be installed on crowded sites where MW machines often times can’t. Installation costs are generally lower because transport trucks, foundation requirements and installation cranes are smaller. Another advantage is modularity. A 1.2 MW project could be filled by one MW-sized turbine, or two E48’s. With a MW machine, you lose 100% production when the turbine is down for repairs or maintenance, but only 50% by shutting down one E48.

And don’t let the E48’s 600kw rating fool you. It has an oversized rotor compared to 600kw turbines of the past. This enables the E48 to produce more kw/hours per year than similar rated models. And kw/hours are what you are paid for.

State-Of-The-Art Design

The E48 is based on the latest technology, with full blade pitch control and our exclusive ASC (Active Stall Control). ASC offers both the advantages of pitch-controlled blades and the stall effect, used by classic stall-regulated wind turbines. Due to the pitch-controlled blades, the rated power level can be tuned precisely, eliminating effects of differences in air density, blade-surface contamination etc. This way, the uncertainties in the rated power level can be avoided.

This guarantees maximum power output for all environmental conditions without overloading the drive train of the turbine. Besides providing power control, the blade pitch system is also used to accelerate the blades from idling to operational speed and bring the rotor back to a safe idling situation in case of a grid loss or any other functional error.

In addition, the E48 has a double speed generator. In wind speeds up to 7 m/s, a 120kw generator is in operation, assuring better performance in lighter winds, and with higher efficiency. Above 7 m/s, the 600kw generator is employed. The result is optimum performance and increased production throughout the wind speed range.

Proven and Successful

The E48 prototype was located in Zeebrugge, Belgium, and has been in successful operation since 1998. Its annual production of 2,300,000 kWh covers the needs of some 700 households. The E48 is certified by CIWI and Germanischer-Lloyd, and built to conform to ISO 9001 quality standards.
